PHANTASMATOPIA Issue 1: Llano del Rio / Mattapoisett

PHANTASMATOPIA analyzes two utopias—one attempted in the real world called Llano del Rio, and one imagined by science fiction author Marge Piercy in her 1972 book, Woman on the Edge of Time. This zine features various quotes and writings, original photographs and documents, AI-assisted envisionings, along with two typefaces created specifically for each utopia. The binding of the zine makes it cyclical: without a certain start or end. The two zines are connected by a long cover with a die-cut hole in the center, revealing the other world via a portal through time.
